Mountain Grind Coffee Cup

This was part of a semester long rebranding project that I did for my cousin’s coffee shop. The rebranding focuses on the coffee bean, and that bean shape is especially prevalent on the coffee cup sleeve; it is in the Mountain Grind logo and it is the shape I used for the speech bubble. I designed multiple sleeves, and each of those sleeves contains a coffee pun (this is because the target audience are the students that go to Colorado Mesa University). This is meant to encourage people to keep coming in (to get a new pun next time). The design on the surface of the cup is of ground coffee, which pairs well with the ground coffee pun on the sleeve.

PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games Poster Series

This poster series is themed around the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. The athlete illustrations are based on the PyeongChang 2018 pictograms for the Olympic games. The Hangul characters on the posters translate as (from left to right): sky, ski, and skate. Hangul is the written form of the Korean language, and Hangul is an example of phonetic orthography (which means that each of the written symbols of the individual characters correspond with the spoken sounds of the language). What is interesting about Hangul is that the letter shapes of the consonants are made to visualize positions of the mouth/teeth/tongue/throat needed to pronounce the character. I explored this visual relationship by playing with the individual characters to illustrate what they mean (for example, I turned one of the characters into a ski slope).

Pop Clarinet

Pop Clarinet is a poster in homage to pop art and popular culture. The clarinet has been a part of Western culture for a long time. It has quite the colorful history, and quite a diversity of colorful sounds and tones. I wanted to highlight the fun nature of the clarinet through this pop art style..

Mountain Grind Food Truck

This food truck is a part of the rebranding project mentioned earlier with the coffee cup. The food truck showcases different speech bubble coffee puns, photographs of ground coffee and coffee beans, and the drink menu. The food truck is meant to be used to advertise and sell Mountain Grind coffee beyond the store as an extension of the coffee shop.

Tea Carroll

This portrait is of Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. This portrait is made out of tea, because tea parties were prominent in the book. This portrait was made for a book cover for Alice In Wonderland, and stands out for its unique medium.

Briar Rose Books Logo

This logo is for a feminist book publishing company that I invented. The branding of this book publishing company is based on the briar rose, which is a rose Shakespeare references quite a bit in his plays. It also is the name of the Brothers Grimm princess in their version of Sleeping Beauty. The briar rose perfectly illustrates beauty and pain with its petals and thorns, and that ties into the good and bad sides of women. In the logo, a book is being opened, and the briar rose and thorns are coming out of the pages. The style of the petals on the rose is reminiscent of rose windows, a prominent feature of gothic buildings.
